description:
Home Rule was a project with the aim of providing internal autonomy for Ireland, yet remaining under the guardianship of the British crown. In 1870, Isaac Butt created the Home Government Association for the promotion of autonomy for the island, and for the setting up of a parliament in Dublin, within the framework of the United Kingdom; in 1873 it became the Home Rule League. This took up the struggle defended by Daniel O'Connell.
