The peasants code was proclaimed by the 'Bonnets Rouges', Breton peasants who rebelled in 1675.
In September 1675, Sebastian Ar Balp gathered close on 30 000 men. The Duke de Chaulnes was put in charge of of the repression, in the name of Louis XIV, which was a dreadful massacre of women and children tortured, raped and burnt alive. Hundreds of rebels were hanged and hundreds more were sent to the galleys.
