Eugène Orieux, born at La Haute-Île in Rezé on 23rd January 1823, died on 21st July 1901 in Le Croisic; son of a baker, descended through his mother from a family of fishermen, he was 1st a sailor before working for the administration of Loire-inférieure (1895), who owe their urban traffic network to him. Amongst other works, he is the author of a History and Geography of Loire-Inférieure (1895), and of poetic texts.
