Des Fourniels Jacques-Marie

Jacques-Marie Des Fourniels was born on 2nd April 1851 in Bellac (Haute-Vienne), to a family originatind from Bordeaux. He spent his adolescent years in Brittany and did his secondary studies in Saint-Brieuc then in Vannes, before obtaining his Law qualifications at the law faculty in Rennes. He then pursued a military career (1871-1878) which brought him to Algeria. On returning to civilian life, he began a career in Journalism and was maried in 1880 or '81.

However, a widow at forty, he entered the religious order of Augustinians ( a congregation founded in Nîmes in 1845, mostly for the management of numerous publications and the pilgrimage to Lourdes) under the name of Brother Roger (1891). He was ordained priest on 6th January 1894 in Paris, the year he finally settled down in Toulouse, where he pursued his journalistic career and founded 'La Croix du Midi'. He died there on 27th October 1924.

Many of his works recall his youth in Brittany.
