Robert Gerard Sands, commonly known as Bobby Sands, born on 9th March 1954 in Newtown Abbey in Northern Ireland and died on 5th May 1981 in the Maze prison in Northern Ireland, was an Irish nationalist, member of the provisional IRA and Deputy of the House of Commons in the United Kingdom from 9th April to 5th May 1981. He died after a hunger strike of 66 days in the Maze prison.
