René Madec or Jean Merrien, officially René de la Poix de Fréminville, born on 3rd June 1905 in Chesnay (Yvelines) and died on 7th June 1972 in Freibourh in Switzerland, was a seafarer, journalist and Breton writer specialising in maritime history. He was also a committed Breton nationalist activist.
