Joseph Créac'h was born in 1870 at 46, rue de la Rampe, the current rue Jean-Macé in Brest. According to Gérard Cissé, he studied at the communal college of Quimper and then with the Salesian religious of Marseille. Entered working life very early, he exercised various professions, "news dealer, antique dealer, grocer, confectioner, insurer and musician", before becoming a teacher in the Parisian suburbs.
